Safety culture refers to the common beliefs, attitudes, and values surrounding safety that exist within an organization. While there are no OSHA standards or regulations that pertain specifically to safety culture, a strong culture of safety can offer myriad organizational benefits, from preventing and reducing injuries to improving productivity and quality, boosting employee engagement and morale, reducing workers' compensation costs, and much more.
Generally speaking, companies with a strong culture of safety have integrated safety throughout their operations and view a safe workplace as a core organizational value. In order for a strong safety culture to take hold, safety efforts must be valued and supported throughout an organization, from frontline employees all the way up to executives and the C-suite.
