Eye and Face Protection
National Summary

This topic covers OSHA’s requirements for eye and face protection, which are a subset of its personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

When employees work in areas with potential hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, potentially infected material, or harmful light radiation, employers must provide and require workers to wear appropriate eye and/or face protection. Types of eye and face protection include safety spectacles, goggles, face shields, welding protection, and laser protection. Employers are responsible for assessing the hazards to which their employees are exposed and implementing appropriate eye and face protection practices.
