Scaffolding (Construction)
National Summary

This topic covers scaffolds used in construction work (i.e., any temporary elevated platform and its supporting structure used to support employees or material).

OSHA’s scaffold rules for construction (29 CFR 1926.450 - .454) cover scaffold design, assembly, employee access, employee use, fall protection, protection from falling objects, and employee training. Scissor lifts are covered under the scaffold rules for construction. There are additional rules for other specific types of scaffolds. Aerial lifts in construction are covered under a specific rule for that type of equipment.
